2020 Mission-oriented innovation bootcamp. OPSI, as part of its Horizon 2020 work programme, is developing such support for mission-oriented innovation as part of its theoretical work on the purposes of public sector innovation. However, as noted at our recent Mission Oriented Innovation Bootcamp, hosted with UCL-IIPP, missions also need new tools, new approaches, and new capabilities to deliver on their grand promises. A proliferation of mission-oriented policies have followed. ĭriven heavily by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Horizon Europe’s 2021-27 programme, the work of the University College London’s Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (including the Mission-Oriented Innovation Network ), and other efforts, m ission -oriented innovation has become a focus for myriad governments around the world. OPSI is remixing some of its systems tools to help with that and have redesigned a tool to specifically address the connection between the ambition and implementation of missions and we want y our feedback. Mission-oriented innovation needs not only an ambitious clarity of purpose but also the alignment of system-level operational and governance m e chanisms.
The following project canvas is based on Over the Fence’s template and shows the development of a product brochure with the canvas method.Missions offer a formalised path to creating public value but urgently need more experimental and iterative approaches to make missions a reality in the messy world of public policy. Purpose: This block describes the reason or catalyst for the project and legitimizes it.Time: This block is the foundation for all other blocks (start and end date of the project, fixed deadline).Customer: Client, sponsor, owner, recipient.Quality: Requirements and success factors.Milestones: Interim goals, important decisions, achievements.weather conditions for construction projects) Risks and Chances: Uncertain or unforeseen events that can endanger or create more favorable conditions for the project (e.g.Resources: workplace, additional offices, tools and materials.Team: core team members, extended team members, project manager.Budget: funds for the project team and other resources.There are nine central blocks and two foundation blocks. Over the Fence’s project canvas includes ten so-called ‘building blocks’. We will take a closer look at the Project Canvas developed by the “Over the Fence – Projects Newly Discovered” initiative. There are several approaches and structuring methods for the Project Canvas that vary widely. It is particularly important for cross-departmental or intercultural teams to make sure that all team members have a clear understanding of the purpose and goals of the project. Ideally, the project manager and the project team develop the canvas together as part of a workshop to gain a common understanding of the project. The project canvas is an ideal instrument for the project definition stage because of the clear and simple structuring of project elements. The Project Canvas enables you to break your project into its basic elements and then visualize and develop it. Project management took Osterwalder and Pigneur’s idea and applied it to projects. The Business Model Canvas is used to visualize different business models in a structured way.
The project canvas derives from the Business Model Canvas developed by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur. A canvas is a visualization method which breaks an abstract idea into its basic components (‘building blocks’).
